Lodge Logic Cast Iron Skillet 12-Inch Pre-Seasoned Review

The Lodge Logic Cast Iron 12-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet I ordered from Amazon finally arrived at my home. I took advantage of the free shipping service because Lodge Logic cast iron cookware is so heavy.

My memories of childhood are brought back by this skillet when my mom had one single frying pan which was that kind of super heavy cast iron skillet. This skillet looks almost the same and if anything, weighs much more than I thought.

First of all, you may notice that any Lodge Logic cast iron cookware including this one comes pre-seasoned. Seasoning/curing is the process that binds oil into the cast iron in order to seal up every pore of the metal. That’s the reason why the pre-seasoned cookware is usually non-stick and can prevent the iron from rusting as well. Iron is one of the metals that will rust very quickly. Fortunately, you can use a steel wool or wire brush to get rid of any rust that may get your Lodge Logic cast iron cookware infected.

Generally, you would have to use hot water to wash your cookware, cook off the water on a hot stove, and then oil the entire skillet before baking it at 375 degrees in an oven for about 45 minutes. No big deal, right?

This Lodge Logic cast iron skillet sizes perfectly for my family of four. I cooked some chicken thighs for my family when I first used it. I cooked up to six thighs and had much space left for probably two more. So size was no problem. The heat was held extremely well particularly for an electric stove. I can simply take the skillet right from the top of the stove and place it into the oven.

The only thing that some people might think of as a drawback is the pretty small handle. It is really hard to hold the handle by both hands and someone who is not strong enough like me might have difficulty with it. I can imagine a 70year-old woman probably having a very difficult time picking it up by one hand. But the good thing about this small handle is if you don’t have a large oven, most of the time it is not easy to get a skillet to fit. The handle is often just too long on 12 inches or larger cast iron skillets. So even though the handle might not be big enough, it could be a godsend for those who had a small oven.

There is a spout on each side of this Lodge Logic cast iron skillet for pouring grease and liquids out of the pan. I wish every pan had this feature.

Of course, flavoring is the next thing. We have the chicken thighs I cooked normally about twice a week. The chicken comes out when it’s impossible for me to cook up anything crazy at a busy evening, because it is put together easily and tastes great. Every one of us noticed the different taste shortly, the deeper flavor. My memories were brought back how my mother used to cook it. Of course, cast iron normally brings iron to the food cooked in it, however, this flavor was an extra bonus.

Finally, I hung up this cast iron skillet on my rack and threw away the Teflon coated cookware, a big skillet. Cookware Master can’t recommend this skillet more and Lodge Logic cast iron by far is the best choice. It cost no more than $20 and you will definitely tell Lodge Logic cast iron skillet is the lifetime pan you don’t want to miss.
